The Crystal Waddell Show: Episode 1 Introduction to Crystal Waddell
Hi there, my friend! Welcome to the Crystal Waddell Show!
I am so grateful that you joined me today. This is the first episode of my podcast, and I wanted to introduce myself and let you know what you can expect in future episodes. You’re in the right place if you’re a business owner trying to make sense of digital tools, including social media sites.
If we’ve never met, I am Crystal Waddell, aka the Social Solopreneur. I am the wife of Jon and the mother of Asher.
I run two websites, one of which is thesocialsolopreneur.com. This is the site where I share how I synthesize digital tools to promote my businesses. My other website is collageandwood.com, where I make and sell giant wooden letters and numbers and collages, particularly jersey number collages for athletes.
I know you might be thinking, whaaat? Most people call me and say, Can I speak to the owner of COLLEGE and wood? That’s the first clue they are trying to sell me something!
But Collage and Wood started off as a way to make extra money after my son was born. At the time I was a volleyball coach, and couldn’t afford end-of-the-season gifts for my players. Lucky for me, one of the parents took amazing pictures of all the girls, so I decided I was going to make something with them! I bought wooden letters from the craft store, using coupons! And I made each of the girl a personalized photo collage on their first initial.
Those were some of the best times of my life. One of my player’s parents told me about Etsy. I’m proud to say that I’m a six-figure seller on Etsy and my company continues to grow BEYOND Etsy … and if you guessed it is because of digital tools, than you are correct.
My goal with this podcast is to to empower you as a Solopreneur to utilize digital tools without the overwhelm. I want to reduce any fear you have of technology and the digital world. I hope to help you frame your mindset regarding digital tools, and demonstrate how you can use them in your business. You CAN do it. Without a team or even a virtual assistant.
I also want you to know that you can count on me to be someone who is genuinely cheering you on. As Solopreneur’s, it can get really overwhelming playing every role in our businesses. And when we get in the position to grow, that can be difficult too - because we lack the systems for others to effectively help us.
I’ve been there. Almost all of the challenges associated with business growth boils down to a lack of systems. James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, says that you will not rise to level of your expectations, but fall to the level of your systems. If you’re anything like me, you have failed to build systems because you ARE the system. Everything resides in your brain. Anything outside of your brain starts to break down and overwhelm you, which keeps you from growing a healthy business. It could even keep you from being healthy.
But there are better ways and I propose that we explore them, together. Digital tools can help you build systems that help your bottom line. They open up opportunities for connecting online with like-minded people you might have otherwise never met! Every week I’m going to share tools and ways to implement them in your business.
This is the show for you if
- you have ever felt lonely and overwhelmed in your business
- You feel like your revenue has plateaued
- You feel torn between promoting your business or spending time on the things that give you an immediate return in terms of revenue.
So, I think I’ll stop there for today. If you have ever thought, “WHY am I doing this?” “Is it worth it?” “Would it matter if I quit right now?” “Will this ever work?” And “Why is this so hard?”, please know that you are not alone. I asked myself those same questions as I attempted to record this podcast over and over and over again.
But I have a feeling someday, I’ll look back on this moment and think to myself, “Why did I doubt myself? Can you imagine if I had given up then?”
So, let’s continue to have these conversations and get better together!
